I’ll never forget purchasing my very first MAC lipstick back when I was just twenty years old, and it seemed so glamorous and luxurious to me to own that lipstick. The color was “Fabby,” and it was one of those strangely ordinary yet rite-of-passage moments when you’re a young woman, and you treat yourself to your first “high-end” makeup item. Needless to say, I wore the heck out of that lipstick, every day all day! When I used my last remnants of it, I purchased another one because it was such a classic, understated, yet timeless shade. That is how I feel about MAC’s “Hot Gossip.” This is a shade that I can see a newcomer to makeup purchasing and wearing all the time, and yet as a seasoned makeup hobbyist, I can also see myself keeping this lipstick stocked in my arsenal for years to come. It’s chic, it’s classic, it’s extremely universally flattering, and it’s timeless. Ten years from now, this lipstick will still be just as gorgeous on absolutely anyone, of any age.

Hot Gossip is a “mid-tone pinky plum” and has a cremesheen finish. This is one of those shades that goes beyond being classic…it will look good with practically anything you put on your eyes or cheeks. It doesn’t lean too yellow or blue toned, so every skin complexion can wear it. It has just enough of a plum shade to it to make it more of a mid-toned pink, meaning, it’s not going to be extremely light or chalky on your lips. The finish is just beautiful as it provides a slight moisturizing sheen to it, but it’s not shimmery, frosty, or glittery. Any age can wear this lipstick and pull it off, and it never looks outdated.

It’s one of those timeless pink shades that can be worn with a light hand for a sheer effect, or applied with a couple of swipes for a more pink lip. It has a slight sheerness to it, which is part of what makes this shade so sophisticated. It’s honestly one of the prettiest pinks in my collection that I can say I will still love in five, ten, and even fifteen years.
